Grade 4 students at the Calgary Jewish Acadamy will work collaboratively with Heritage Park in bringing the history, stories and culture forward from the students in the re-creation of the synagogue.
Synagogues mark the place where Jewish culture come together to gather and worship. What story do the synagogues tell? How have they maintained their culture and beliefs over time and as synagogues are built in other parts of the world? Has where they now live influenced or changed their culture? What are the traditions, celebrations, stories and practices that unite them with other Jews? How is cultural diversity expressed within each community? Are synagogues the same or different? Are synagogues different in other parts of the world? How is identity expressed? In this inquiry, students will examine characteristics that tell the story of synagogues in their own community, in other communities and other parts of the world. How can these students assist in creating the stories and re-telling the significance of the "Little Synagogue on the Prairie ?"
